Abstract
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the differences of a patient hygiene performance (PHP) index, Dental Plaque Rate, Oral Hygiene Management Ability, and Oral hygiene satisfaction among toothbrushing methods of Bass' method, Rolling method and Watanabe method of college students.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 47 college students in one university. The participants were assigned to Bass' method group of 15, Rolling method group of 15 and Watanabe method group of 17, respectively. The each toothbrushing method was conducted for 2 weeks and at the pre-post test, a patient hygiene performance (PHP) index, a toothbrushing O?leary index, and Oral hygiene satisfaction were investigated. In order to analysis the data, t-test, ANOVA, and Reapeated measure ANOVA were used using SPSS window 21.0 Program.

Results: The study results showed that each group participating in the study had significantly decreased mean scores for PHP, toothbrushing O?leary index, and Oral hygiene satisfaction compared with the control group. However, there were no significant differences in the mean scores for patient hygiene performance (PHP) index, Dental Plaque Rate, Oral Hygiene Management Ability and Oral hygiene satisfaction between the groups.

Conclusion: In conclusion, rolling method is the best option to enhance the effect of bacterial removal and oral hygiene satisfaction on tooth. The study¡¯s results indicate that institutional framework is required for the continuous education on toothbrushing to be in place as the effectiveness of the education is decreased with time.
